Frequently Asked Questions

When it comes to your dental care, we’re sure that you have many questions, and at Plantation Pointe Dentistry, we’re proud to say that we have the answers! Check out the most common questions and answers below and if your question isn’t listed, feel free to give us a call.

How often should I see a dentist?

Dr. Wade recommends that patients of all ages should visit the office at least twice a year for checkups and cleanings. These appointments are essential to catching and treating minor issues before they can become even bigger problems down the line, plus they can help stop tooth decay and gum disease from developing in the first place.

My gums bleed every time I brush. What should I do?

Have you just started flossing? If so, then a little oral bleeding is perfectly normal and should stop after a few days. You might also be brushing/flossing your teeth with too much force. Switch to a soft-bristled brush if you aren’t using one already and try cleaning your teeth with a lighter touch. If this still doesn’t stop the bleeding after a week or so, then you may have early-stage gum disease, in which case you should give us a call. You won’t be able to treat gum disease on your own, and it will only get worse if left alone!

I think I might have a cavity. What should I do?

If you’ve noticed a dark spot on one of your teeth, or if you’re experiencing a minor toothache, then please call our office. The sooner we’re able to treat a cavity, the better the outcome. In most cases, we should be able to fix it in just one visit using either a tooth-colored filling or a dental crown.

How can I prevent bad breath?

Bad breath is usually the result of a lack of oral hygiene, which allows foul-smelling bacteria to build up in the mouth. Be sure to brush your teeth at least twice a day, floss once daily, and don’t forget to brush your tongue as well, as a lot of food particles can linger on it! If this doesn’t help, then you may have gum disease, in which case we can take care of it right here at Plantation Pointe Dentistry.

How should I replace my missing teeth?

This answer varies by patient, depending on the situation. We may recommend dental implants, fixed bridge work or partials to replace the teeth. Please contact us today to book a consultation where we will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each treatment option including cost and time.
